Hi all,

I am a new member to this website and was looking to talk to others about whether or not I have AS....I feel as though I experience many of the characteristics but my parents never tested me or anything like that, so how do I know for sure? I am already in my 20s...a bit late to do much about it now, and I just recently graduated from college so it's not standing in the way of my intellect. I've worked as a behavioral specialist so I am extremely proficient in understanding different cognitive/psychological challenges people face and it piqued my curiosity about if I fall into a category too....I experience major anxiety, OCD, anal retentive tendencies, can be socially ill at ease at times, hyper-focused on a task/situation and unable to let go easily....could this pass for being on the high functioning part of autism spectrum? Aspergers?

If anyone has any insight about this, let me know what you think :?

People here do not try to diagnose each other, but we can sure try to help each other figure things out for ourselves.

My own self-assessment sounds similar to some of what you have shared ...

Welcome to WP!

Hi Danish:

leejosepho is right, its not a good idea for us to diagnose each other or to say one person has it and another person doesn't have it. But I would suggest the following:

1.) There are on line tests that you can take to help you decide.

2.) Start a topic about something you experience. Consider the feedback you receive from other forum members to help you decide

3.) Read the topics in the forum. You can decide from what other people experience with AS

I am like you, a diagnosis at this point seems a little late. But talking with people on this forum about what I and others experience helped me decide. Even without a diagnosis it feels good to know that your not the only who experiences the same problems. You can then learn and share with other people what to do to help yourself :)

Thank you both very much for sharing your input. I really appreciate hearing it. Makes me feel less crazy for wondering whether I am a considerable candidate or it's all in my head. I do have to agree, after having signed up with Wrong Planet, it is so amazing to be able to reach out and relate to people who may understand how I feel through similar experiences. I look forward to learning as much as I can, since as we all know, knowledge is power. :D

Knowledge does, indeed, give strength to the arm!

Some of the tests online can be more or less useful but the one designed by Simon Baron-Cohen at Cambridge appears to be quite accurate and is at: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html.
