I wish I could copy my title line for the entire post, actually.
I'm 27, female, finally diagnosed with Asperger's at 25. It took them several tries to get that right. There's been angst. It appears to be genetic in my family (my father, at least one of his sisters, probably my grandfather), which has resulted in multiple generations of extremely intelligent people unable to reach their fullest potential. My mother is like a Super NT, ex-Homecoming Queen, social freakin' ninja. It makes for an interesting dynamic.
For the first time in my life, I have been granted the time and space I need to deal with baggage and learn how to effectively work with, rather than despite, my autism to get what I want. This is all after a lot of testing, therapists, college dropping-out, failed work scenarios, and stop-and-start treatments, but real progress is being made and I'm grateful my family is giving me the chance.
I don't know what I'm looking for from this board...new connections, new perspectives, maybe? I just know I love to talk.
P.S. What's up with the OMG-let's-be-BFFs PMs? I've already gotten two from people saying they read my profile and think I sound wonderful and amazing and want to start a friendship/relationship with me...which is great, except for the fact my profile was completely empty at the time. WTF, mate?
