Hi My name is Jennifer and I am married and we have 4 children. Our 3 daughters are ages 19,16, 14 and our youngest is a 10 yr old little boy. He is a little sweetie but the last couple years have been difficult at school. The school just did a big eval on him and I had to answer a lot of questions before the eval too some of it was an autism screening. They said he is fitting the autism scale according to the results. My next step is to prob take him abck to the nerologist i took him to a yr ago. They did a bunch of tests and his mri and most of the bloodwork was normal was they did see he has a chromosone deletion on chromosone 15 and on the blood results it did say it can run on the autism spectrum and dev delays. Background he was born at 35 weeks, did ok but had rsvsnf pnewmonia at 5 weeks and has had develomental delays and received early intervention till age 3 and then public preschool till he was old enough for school. The last yr or so has been hard- they said he cries a lot and has social problems. At home he is a little sweetie. I would liek to connect to other parents going through this!

Thanks for reaching out Jennifer,

My son and I both have Asperger's When my wife first heard the term autism, all she could think of was "Rain Man." Now we know it's much more. My son't diagnosis led to my big "Aha!" as well.

I've chronicled parts our experience on my blog at http://aspergersexpert.blogspot.com

One series many people like is the Seven Stages of Asperger's Awareness at http://bit.ly/hPZi0e

It talks about the stages that some of us go through as we discover and eventually embrace the role Asperger's plays in our lives.

Welcome to the community. Blessings on the journey.

Peter

THANKS FOR THE REPLY! i checked your blog out and it is great. he is a really smart boy. when they eval at school it took long because he wanted to discuss every question. hes 10 years old. they told me part of the test was pictures and for example with a and apples he wanted to exlplain how applesauce is made. b for bats he wanted to explain different types of bats- one for sports the oyther one comes out at night. my son has always be3en a picky eater ( saw that in your blog) and has always had hard time with lots of noise. he is very smart though!

My son was diagnosed with Aspergers when he was 8. My husband and I were very overwhelmed and the first couple years were very rough. He also was diagnosed with a seizure disorder. I can tell you it gets better. my son is 15 and is doing well in school and we have all adjusted to his way of doing things. I would love to talk more and tell you some of the things that have helped him succeed and grow into the person he is today.
