Hi there,

I've been lurking for a little while but I figured I'd actually say something.

I'm Marianne and I'm in college for writing and art, and I love animals and the outdoors above everything else. I'm also obsessed with animation and I'll talk your ear off if you don't tell me to shut up.

I'm nineteen and I first found out about AS through a good friend. Her brother is an aspie and since she's been spending more time with me she's begun to notice many similar symptoms. I've had therapists suspect AS but I'm going in for an official evaluation in the summer. So, who knows. But the advice and discussion here helps so I guess I'm here to say.

Any other animal lovers out there? Or any furries? We're not as insane as the media says. Really. :P

I'm an animal lover and a pit bull advocate. Michael Vick and those other thugs that think it's fun to watch dogs kill each other can shove it  Animals were my very first special interest and I used to want to be a zoologist. Then I got into animal behavior and I used to spend my free time training the family dog. Now I'm training a mobility dog for my quadriplegic sister. His name is Duke and we got him from the shelter at 3.5 months.

If you really think you have AS, you probably do. I'm really borderline in that I don't have meltdowns and I'm only mildly over-perceptive to sound. For those reasons, I was questioning; I still received a diagnosis to be sure.

Thanks for the welcome, and what a beautiful puppy! I loved my zoo class to pieces and I've worked with a zoo and a few rehab centers. I miss the mountain lion. I'm sure animals--horses especially--were my first special interest as well, and it stuck.

I have a few sensory issues with sound and some to touch, but the latter isn't really outside the "normal" range. I stim like crazy though and my social skills are out in left field.

You can use idioms and you stim. Sounds like a mild case similar to mine. You probably would've been diagnosed when you were younger if you had obvious meltdowns and caring parents.

hi to you. dan types and louie the wonder dog sleeps.

just a warning, there are many writers on wrong planet that couldn't care less about animals. they like to make fun of people who think animal cruelty is wrong. lots of michael vick supporters.

i rarely write or visit w. p. now, after writing about animal cruelty. too disappointing.

if it really bothers you to be called names, then be careful about the forums you enter.

oh I'm familiar with those types. I've volunteered at shelters in Chicago; animal abuse is common in big cities (especially with bully breeds), so I wouldn't be surprised at all if some of the people here are sociopaths as well. Yes, getting pleasure from seeing suffering is a diagnosable disorder.

Hi, unciauncia. You're the first one I've noticed on here to use the word "stim" , but I understand where you're coming from.
My wife (of 6 months) has an autistic son, so she knew what it was when she saw me "stimming".
I tend to really "stim" when I'm either very excited or upset, and am usually unaware of doing it. I also tend to rock if simply excited.
Also, my own social skills aren't good. It's hard for me to read peoples' cues, so I have to just do my best (or let my wife help me out. She's a real people person, and can easily read social cues).
So chances are you DO have AS! :)
