Hi, I'm Evan. Long-time Aspie, first-time poster.
Now, having just turned 20, I am beginning to appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of being an autistic person in America. (I feel like this should be a voice-over to the intro of a documentary about my life, not that it would be that interesting.)
I was active in the progressive/far-left/etc. activist community until relatively recently. Currently, my activities consist of attending community college, doing homework, updating my Tumblr, watching YouTube videos, and waiting for my car to get fixed. In the foreseeable future, I'd like to get a part-time job, get my degree in Social and Behavioral Science from my school, and re-establish myself as an activist in the community - in short, to "get a life". :)
For more insight on my personality/interests/what makes me tick, I suggest that you have a look at my primary Tumblr, which is listed as my home page. As of very recently, I also co-moderate fyeahautismspectrum with two other Tumblr users on the spectrum. :D

Obviously, NTs may follow this blog as well, but we don't exist to educate, amuse, or otherwise benefit them.

Sounds to me like nothing more than a bit of mental masturbation.

All that means is that NT people shouldn't rely solely on us to educate them when they can easily do it themselves in this day and age. Even we don't know absolutely everything about autism and autistic people, our experiences are individual and varied. We're not here just to benefit NTs. :|

Of course, I didn't actually create the blog. One of the other admins should be able to give you a better idea of the spirit of that message.

I really do try to avoid wrong judgments of the actions of others, but "f**k yeah autism spectrum" seems to me to represent an *attitude* thinly masked under a banner of alleged "activism".

I could easily be wrong, of course, and welcome to WP!

My name is Lici. I am the mother of an Apsie who will turn 20 in August. We just learned my son has Asperger's last year when he failed his first year of college.

We are getting help, now, but he has given up on going to college and just sits around the house, depressed and gaining weight.

He has anti-depressants and seeing an MD as well as behavioral psychologist. I am trying to give him every resource he needs to learn how to help himself, but he won't do anything.

I wish I had known sooner what I was dealing with so I could have helped my son when he was younger.

I'm hoping that I can gain some insight here, and hopefully get my son back on a path toward becoming a successful and self-sufficient adult.
