I just want to take a moment and introduce myself. I've been "sneaking" around for a little while now. I've been reading various posts nearly religiously every morning and night for the last two weeks. I certainly feel that I fit right in this community. I am 26 years old and live in Ohio, USA. I haven't been formally diagnosed with Asperger's but after it was pointed out by some mental health professionals that it's a plausable explaination for some of my issues I've been dealing with all my life, I began doing my own research which includes nearly all the books on Asperger's my local main library has, various online sources, and personal stories by people such as Temple Grandin and John Robison am very certain that I have it. Looking back at my life, espicially childhood, Asperger's explains so much that it often makes me cry and laugh reading my stories in the books and posts here on WP. The aspie quizes all indicate that it's highly likely that I have it. I'm currently in the process of getting evaluated but it's been difficult finding someone who deals with adults instead of pediatrics. Well anyways, I just wanted to take a moment and say hello. I'll give my life monologe at a later time...

Welcome! I am new too- also 26 and from Ohio. And I also have been reading these posts every day for the last two weeks! If you find someone who actually does have experience with adult AS, would you be willing to let me know who they are? I have been quasi-looking, but haven't found much here in Ohio. I'm partly afraid to try and get diagnosed because of the fact that so many doctors out there are only trained to see it in kids.

Yes, it has been a little difficult so far but I am certainly not giving up. I have a few leads. If I come across anything, I'll let you know. I am fortunate to have a very supportive and proactive couselor who has been able to get some grant funds to pay for testing. We have some contacts at the Rich Center for Autism at youngstown state university who are trying to direct us in the right place. I'm going to a autism presentation/conference in a few weeks to meet a few people who may be able to help. By the way, if you didn't know and live within a resonable distance from Youngstown, ohio, Temple Grandin is holding a free presentation on May 17th at Stanbaugh Auditorium in youngstown! I'm excited about it!

I also initially "self diagnosed" based on readings on the internet as well as books. I finally got my formal diagnosis last year.

Thank you everyone who has warmly welcomed me thus far. I want to post the link for that Temple Grandin presentation but the forum is preventing me from doing so at the current time. Doing a search for youngstown state university's rich center for autism will get you the information you need. The lecture is free but you need to get tickets a the week before the presentation which is on May 17th at 7pm at Stambaugh Auditorium in youngstown, ohio.
