I just got diagnosed with Asperger's, and started looking for information to help me live better. I feel amazed that I just now learned about this in my 40's. People told me all sorts of things about my clumsy social interaction, through the years, but I couldn't see the way to implement their advice in the moment. Also, people praise honesty highly until they actually encounter it live and in person, and my tendency to believe what people say made a lot of their advice confusing. Now, at least, I understand that neurotypical types are saying more than I can currently hear, and I don't need to take them literally or despise them for what would qualify as dishonesty by my personal standards.

About me, I live in a small town in West Texas. I lived in Austin for years, but moved out here after it tripled in size and changed in other ways I didn't like. Also, I had some relationships that left me depressed and despairing. My parents live in the same town, and their advancing age makes it likely I'll stay here to care for them for some time. I don't really like the culture here, and have some regrets about buying a house and moving into town from the country, where I lived for 4 years. I've had two jobs in 5 years, and left both over social difficulties. Since my diagnosis, I decided to go back to college and finish my degree, and will start summer classes next month. I found a psychologist who's as smart as I am, and challenges me to think about things which I don't understand and haven't perceived.

On a serious note, glad you found a good psychologist - that's an extraordinarily important asset. On a more light-hearted note, you sir, are one handsome Texan.
