MY NAME'S MILO

i'm 20 years old, trans, and a cancer :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: i use he/him or they/them pronouns,

I'M REALLY GLAD I FOUND THIS FORUM.

i also have some learning disabilities, which are important to me. I'M SUPER INTO DISABILITY ACTIVISM. i've been focused on the intersection of race and gender with diagnosis and treatment of LD and developmental disorders (mostly adhd and autism, because i know the most about those).

OTHER THINGS I'M REALLY INTO: languages!! i want to learn spanish and mandarin. right now i'm working on ASL and japanese, and casually korean. i'm like a sponge, honestly. i can absorb grammar rules and vocabulary quickly (which i think is hilarious considering i have a language and communication based LD that only seems to affect english? similar to how people with dyslexia are not always "universally dyslexic" and may find other languages unaffected by their usual processing issues)

ANYWAY, i love to talk and hope i can meet some friends ^^

Welcome to WP! It's cool that you're into disability activism. Languages are interesting too.

Hi Milo, welcome. I wish I had your language abilities. I lived in mainland China for a year and no one could understand me when I tried to speak Mandarin. I never got the tones right. It was so frustrating because I could understand their broken English but no one could understand my broken Mandarin.

^^mandarin is a very hard language to master even for the chinese speakers themselves. you need to memorize a set number of characters (in the thousands) to even read the daily newspaper.

it would be interesting to see if they adopted a more...intuitive writing system, IMO. 8)

.....

HEY!!

WELCOME!! to WP!

learning those languages requires a lot of concentration and dedication, which i wish i had because i'm currently trying (that is the keyword) to craft my own language, but i can't concentrate on it long enough to make real progress.
