Hello there everyone! I am new to this site and would like to say a big thanks to Alex for setting it up.

I only recently became aware that I suffer from Asperger syndrome, even though I have known my whole life that I haven't fitted in with my peers.

It is only in the last week that I had my 'breakthrough'... so I am pretty fragile at the moment but I am glad to have had the realization to what it is that has made me such an outcast, misfit and general odd ball for all these years.

Question:
Do you think a person is born with AS or do you think that it can develop because of intense bullying being experienced consistently on a daily basis over a long number of years from a very early age?

I would really love to hear your thoughts on this... peace out

*************
Just because I view things upside down, back to front and around the wrong way doesn't mean tomorrow isn't going to be a fantastic day! I have Aspergers and I'm OK.

born with it. it runs in families. the bullying comes as a result of asperger's.

Thanks for that. I am of that grain of thought as well but then the intense bullying leads to a vicious cycle, because by retreating from the world to 'remove' yourself from the bullying you end up becoming more socially awkward.

Wondering if you have any tips for how to get along in team orientated workplaces? I have constantly crashed and burned in the work environment because people don't get my hypersensitivities, mini melt downs and total lack of need to talk unless it is for a purpose. I feel like such a phony all the time, everyday is a struggle to get through.

Any work place tips would be so helpful. I am going through one of my crash cycles at the moment and need to hold it together long enough to get myself into a job that will be a more appropriate fit for my personality. I have come to realize that I can't make my personality fit a job it is going to have to be the other way around.

So any tips to help me get through until then would be really helpful, thanks :-)

if you look up autism and employment on a book website there are a number of useful books on the general subject
