I am Agemaki. I have not been diagnosed with AS though I have come to strongly suspect that something of the sort may relate to certain issues I have dealt with throughout my life. Internet quizzes, for what they are worth, would seem to reinforce this conclusion. I would like to seek an official diagnosis if only to sate my curiousity but it is my understanding that it would not be cheap. Hence I remain untested for the time being.
I had heard precious little of AS prior to this last summer when I made the acquaintance of my current boyfriend on an internet dating site. After several lengthy conversations he informed me that I ought to know that he had AS. Not knowing what that entailed I did a bit of poking about. The things I read reminded me much of myself, including my childhood behavior and early development. From what I can tell, the main reason why as a child no one had ever though to test me for a possible learning disability was simply because the traits that I do not display are also some of the more easily recognizable. In other words, I've never had issues making eye contact or speaking with inflection and in a one-on-one conversation I probably appear quite normal aside from a bit of bashfulness and a tendency to fidget. (And shyness in a young girl is often seen in an endearing light it would seem.) My preoccupation with drawing faces, beginning in early childhood, might have helped me to read facial expressions and the like. I do remember being very concerned with the expression of emotion in my drawings as a child.
At any rate, I hope to learn more about myself and share experiences. All those things are very interesting.
