Hi.

I'm 22 years old and just recently found out I have Asperger. In a way it was somewhat of a relief, but I understand I can't be complacent about it.

Durring this summer I was reading a book by Robin Dunbar called "History of man", in which it had a small section about autism and some theories about it. I related so I decided to investigate. Soon enough I found out about Asperger, did the AQ Test and latter on was diagnosed.

Any tips would be great.

Tip #1: Your initiation won't be complete until hyper_alien and/or Tim_Tex says 'Welcome to WP!'.

Hey and welcome. My intro to you is this: I'm 16, was diagnosed with AS at then, and had only really started to acknowledge this about two or so months ago. I live in the little ignored group of islands known as New Zealand, and down here the weather's perfect! How is in... uh, wherever you are?

Hi.

Portugal is in the exact oposite side of the world to New Zealand, in Europe, just next to Spain. The weather here is quite good.

Wow, thanks! I always wanted to know what was on the opposite side of the world to NZ. Now I can use it like many cartoons use the gag of being smashed through the ground and ending up in China!

For someone in Portugal, your English is amazing! (slight accent, though... :D )

Welcome to the Planet....I like your photos on Deviant art....what is our favorite philosopher? You have the look of an existentialist....or nihilist?<----a romantic which has been disappointed by reality

Thank you. :)

My favorite philosopher is Nietzsche. I foucus more on Methaphysics, Language and Logic, than in existencialism, but not to say that I do not apreciate it.

You can definitly say that I'm "a romantic which has been disappointed by reality" (it is very well put actually). As you'll probably understand, it can be very frustrating not to understand how it is that reality works.

What about yourself?

I think I related most to Camus(but it has been about 20 years since I took philosophy)I really related to his writtings...he has the best description of "existential angst" and dissociation I have ever read.I am just learning about AS and am in process of getting DX right now....but I think he described my experience trying to understand "humanity","self","reality" with AS traits. It wasnt until I found this web site that I realized there were other people who experienced some of the same sense of "strangeness" of the world, that I had always felt.I am more non-social then even most aspies but I do like the feeling that I am not totally alien even if I often feel alienated...lol.I hope you enjoy the "community" here as much as I have.I think a lot of people here have really good "heart".Your English is amazing,by the way,Did you learn it in school? It is much better then mine(and a hundred times better then "W" Bush, and we were born in USA...)

Camus is quite impressive. I take that you've read "The Outsider"? (I think the title in America is "The Stanger"). It is one of my favorite books, and I think it would be a very easy book for any aspie to relate to. I also apreciate is inclination towards absurdism, altough he didn't.

As for the comunity I've been enjoying it, I just arrived today, but I am finding very... insightful. Still, I feel alienated from it and don't realy know what to say, which is natural I guess, but in any case, I'm forcing myself to participate, otherwise it would be rather pointless.

Thank you for the kind words on my language skills. In any case, I have no excuse for my English not to be good. Well.. at least not written English anyway... I have an American Grandmother and I've studied philosophy in England for three years. I just recently got back to Portugal. Besides, I love language in the broadest sence of the word and can't stand finding it being mistreated. As a result I'm often called "pedantic", but I don't mind it...

Where about in the state are you from?

My favorite existentialist is Hammond.

You've heard of Hammond existencialism?

Oh, and welcome to the planet. Everybody here is alienated, so you'll fit right in.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?
You were quiet, just like mice. And now you say that we're not nice.
Well thank you buddy for your advice...

Canyonwind....I have never heard of Hammond....can you recommend a specific text?(I prefer "fiction" with philosophy in it...ie....The Stranger....rather then books about philosophy which are always over my head)Have you read....R.D.Lange......"Politics of Experience"or "Doors of Perception"(Huxley)?

Philostrate....I live in the mid-North of USA...about 4 hours from Canada..Minneapolis Minnesota. It is really pretty area by Lake Superior but pretty cold...I always wanted to be near the Mediterranean...
