My name's Troy and am self-diagnosed with Asperger's as of Sept 2011. I've been in regular therapy since last December, and after 6 months of a therapist demanding the only problem is depression, I happened upon information about AS before I was about to waste anymore time on another therapist. I have yet to find a professional whom I don't have to teach the scope or broad definition of AS, so I am doing my own therapy and making the best of it. I just found out last week that I don't have to fake being typical my whole life when I found a youtube video of a therapist describing to me what was happening, instead of me convincing a therapist it was happening. It was great.
So since I can't find anyone near me geographically that knows anything about it, I thought I'd join here and see what's up.
Umm, so I'm not sure how to keep a conversation going (maybe someone can relate to that), but I'm curious if anyone here has had any personal experience with wearing what I've heard termed an 'Aspergian Mask', or faking being typical. My intent is to no longer go through life faking it, and am now running into things such as, my brother wants me to quit whining and asking life for a free ride and just go back to being normal. I'm also looking for help or a mentor with self-disclosure both for work and personal relationships.
Thanks.
