I'm curious as to how others have came to the epiphany of 'I probably have Asperger Syndrome!'.

For me, it happened because I took the empathy quotient. Prior to that, I was told that I lacked empathy, and hence I was curious as to whether or not the statement could possibly be true. I ended up getting ~4-5 out of 80, which freaked me out, leading me to further inquiry concerning the matter. It was suggested on the particular website I visited that a low score is linked to Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism. And henceforth began my long quest of self-discovery, starting with the mere googling of 'Asperger Syndrome'.

I clicked a link about Asperger Syndrome, read it, and cried the night out. It scared me just how well it corresponded to me. I then extensively researched the Syndrome for a good number of months, perhaps nearing a year now. And here I am.

If anyone else wants to share their story, by all means.

But yeah, I'm new. Hi there!

shrug. just because you don't mean it to be doesnt mean it isnt. i actually usually only greet people on principle if they seem interesting so take it as a compliment. ( not to say there arent other people who arent interesting on here that i havent greeted)

Welcome! I was diagnosed with it at a young age myself but didn't really understand it until I researched it and realized how much it applied to me in so many ways. It was during a time of depression when I researched it, but knowing about it has changed me into a better person anyway, s'all good. :B

Welcome. I've also recently discovered that this probably applies to me, though for different reasons.

While working on my depression and anxiety issues with my therapist over the summer of 2010, it became clear that I can't read body language. She said that that's a common symptom of people with Asperger's, about which I knew nothing then, and that I should go online and see if I could find ways that they deal with it. Before I could even find any information on that, I found a list of symptoms. Most of it fit me, down to a fascination with bright lights and an inability to respond properly to compliments. That began a several month process that resulted in an official diagnosis.
