A new member from France

Hi everybody !
I'm not an Aspie myself (despite what my wife says) but I'm the father of a three and a half boy wonderful who have autism, probaby Asperger's syndrom (the doctors said there was no use to make further research to have an accurate diagnostic ).
I live in western France, and i hope my bad english will not hurt you.
I hope that, with this forum, I will have more information about how to help my son, and how to understand him. By the way, I choose my name after the name of his "Teddy bears" (which, actually, is a rabbit ! Holala! ).

Welcome. I'm from France too. I suppose you hit the wall of non-understanding about autism in France. It can be difficult to find someone to make a diagnosis. Maybe you can find some assocation in your region to give you good addresses for an evaluation.

Thank you for all those greatings. I don't know if France is "super", but it is a real nice place to visit. But it's true that it can be a real treasure to see, I mean it (once you've saw the "mont Saint Michel" ans "Carcassonne", you can die -as late as possible, of course).
Aniway, it's quite hard here for autistic people : they are too often looked as if they were ret*ds, and the doctors are lfar behind other countries (I don't know if this is grammatically correct. My idea is that tey often see it as mental decease, and propose a psychoanalysis as a cure).
Aniway, I'm sure I will find here information, and, also, people to check my grammar ( I need it) !

Well, France have been leading in medical care, but not with mental hillness. And Psychonalysis is something strong within the intellectual world : to a lot of psychiatrist, autism is a mental disorder. I have a strong background in sociology, and psychology, at least as it is made in France, as always looked to me as a way to make people stand in the same row. As we say in France : "je ne veux pas une tête qui dépasse" : everybody should look the same !

Did you study psychology ?

No, I didn't (or just a little bit, something like 150 hours) . But is how it looked like, to me. Maybe it is not that, but with sociological -and durkheimian- point of view, it si how it looks like. I mean, it is what society asks to psychologist, which may be quite different from what think about what they are doing. IE, I'm a teacher, and I like to think that my job is learning and explaining things to kid. But when I think about it, in some extends, at the very end it is just dispaching good and bad peoples, who's gonna have a good job and who's gonna have a bad one ("tri social" they told me at he IUFM, that you must have heared about, because we are two french people talking in english ).

I never heard "social sort", but I fully understand what it means. I used to be upset about it, but not anymore. The way we are educated makes a big difference. To some extent, children tend to be like their parents, because they live with them. There is nothing wrong about it. Of course, we can supply all we can to all children at school so that they can change (in both directions), but family conditionning is very strong. So it is inevitable to sort people at some time. I would say that the problem is not really here, but rather give the opportunity to everyone, and also the problem of wages. You know there is nothing bad about doing some job that is actually not well paid. It should just be paid for the effort. Well that's my point of view. Of course, there should be more care taken for all jobs, because really some people have difficult jobs and there is not much understand from a financial point of view. We should do everything we can to alleviate material tasks, but that's not always the case.
