1.7.12 Me by M, on Flickr

I have been recently diagnosed and am frankly relieved after a lifetime of misdiagnosis and confusion as to why I cannot function and get so overstimulated. And being told I have psychiatric issues knowing full well that I am mentally fit in that sense and facing neurological and cognitive challenges.

I am determined to get somewhere in my own progress and development now that I have this information. I am far too intelligent and talented to waste away in isolation in my batcave (I posted here about isolation).

It's a true pleasure to be here and in general to FINALLY be among 'my kind.'

I appreciate each and every one of you.

I'm posting pics partly because I'm narcissistic but mostly because I'm teaching myself all about how to use these boards. I've been posting and commenting and reading so that I understand how to navigate and function here. So please forgive the gigantor in-your-face me me me pics!

Hello :) and welcome. I do not have a diagnosis yet....no healthcare. Not sure if I have aspergers or not but I have many of the characteristics, i.e, social awkwardness, limited interests, stimming. I thought I would join because I have come across so many who go through some of the same struggles as I do.

Nice to meet you :)

It seems a smart move to seek the company of others like onself. It's fundamental for life to somehow be among others and validated.

Yes! I completely agree. If I did not have the opportunity to interact with people similar to myself I would surely go insane.

Yes, that's what I find! I became very practiced at isolation = madness.

I've never been called a maven before.

Wait, it actually looks like Yamantaka, are you certain it's Mahakala?

Are you a Tibetan Buddhist?

Mongrel Buddhist. I like a lot of religious/spiritual paths. I just made a lot of progress with Buddhism first. I like my gods as archetypes or symbols, not beings, but I can cope with anthropomorphising. I started out as an atheist, I'm more of a pantheist now, I think.

How about yourself? Any religious leanings?

I wish you well on your quest. :)

I'm an atheist. To me, physics comes much closer than philosophy or religions. Saying that, it's likely to confuse most people that i am also a devoted practitioner of Vajrayana in the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Mostly meditation and mind training. There are Deities, yes, but in my small minded thinking I see them as energetic states or conditions that, through the practice of becoming them oneself, one embodies or takes on the characteristics associated with that deity/practice.

"Mongrel Buddhist" that's funny. There are a lot of people I think, who like yourself, have embraced a lot of the principles and benefited. I personally don't think it matters. As long as we are able to have well being and compassion for others. That seems the bottom line. And not just for Buddhists, right? Obviously planet-wide for humans in general!

By the way, I had to seek out a diagnosis without the help from any insurance. I finally found someone who would do it for a fee I could handle through an organization that focuses only on diagnosing and treating autism spectrum disorders (I hate that word disorder, hardly seems accurate).

I knew I was prior to receiving the diagnosis. I immediately sought out the company of other adults with it and finally finally for the very first time knew what it was like to be around other human beings and not feel like an alien! Whew!
