Hi all, I'm a college student (biology major) and I've recently started suspecting that I may have Asperger's. I'm holding off a while before telling my parents and attempting to get a diagnosis, but my research makes me feel about 90% certain I'm somewhere on the spectrum.

I won't lie - I was pretty resistent to the conclusion at first. Going away to college helped me make huge progress with my social issues, and for a while I thought there was hope I might eventually become "normal". But the more I looked into the symptoms of Asperger's, the more I realized how well it explained my entire life. It's almost alarming, really. Like my personality is one of those chalk optical illusion/street art things: a weird, meaningless jumble until you view it from the right angle and suddenly the pattern emerges.

But anyway, enough of my weird metaphors haha. Other fun facts about me: I love to read, I'm currently obsessed with all things British, and I come down solidly on the side of the felines in all dog vs cat wars :P

Btw, if anyone is curious about what specifically makes me think I'm an aspie, just let me know and I'd be happy to provide a list :)

Hi Elenchus, This is my first post on this site as well. I am 30 and just got diagnosed with ASD/Aspergers. I took the KBIT last month and the following week I took GADS and ADOS. I have been misdiagnosed basically my whole life and now I am really starting to figure out exactly what is going on with me. I must admit I wish I had known about aspergers sooner. Probably would have made my life more than a bit more comfortable. Hope to see you around here.

I'm brand new as well. So I hope this works for all of us. Not sure how cool you are with sharing, but I find list work great for going down and making sure things are what's what. Unfortunately no one really paid much attention to issues of the brain when I was going through school. My doc never administered a written test, just went through books and questions and behavioral examination for some weeks then confirmed I absolutely am Aspy. Sometimes I wonder if there were more things that should have gone into the diagnosis, but I hear different specialists handle diagnosis differently. The only real testing I read about was for kids. Curious what you guys have run across. As to telling your parents, I guess it depends on your relationship with them and what kind of parents you have. I found that my family didn't care much one way or another. I am the oldest of five and my sibs suffer from an assortment of goodies. My Ex refuses to accept the diagnosis as she prefers to think that I am the way I am just because I am an ass, even though the people who know me all agree I am not. I think it just makes it easier for her to be able to blame things on me. Exs what can you do?
