Us aspies need to stick together. Autism never affects any two people in exactly the same fasion unlike many types of mental illness. Autism develops differently in each person. We truly are 100% unique individuals. That makes me feel good about my diagnosis. Ive never been much for conformity but mainly because I didnt really feel I was capable of it (prior to diagnosis). In fact I like to think we are, by nature, the true non-conformists of the world. It was just before my 22nd bday I became aware of my "condition". My point is even though all of us aspies are genuine one of a kinds there is a special bond for people on the autism spectrum. I think the connection most neurotypicals find with each others is similer to how aspies connect because we share a specific brain chemistry. In other words its nice when you can find people that think and process information in similer ways. At least for me but I found out in adulthood. Im curious what you all think of this. I would really like to speak with others who were diagnoed later in life, had misdiagnosis in the past and most important how to cope with the diagnosis. Since I found out Ive been feeling more disconnected than ever. Others who are undereducated tell me nothing has changed because its always been there. I find that offensive. For me the awaremess has and is still affecting me. Sensory problems have become much more noticable because for years I suppressed and internalized my symptoms but now I know it was never just in my head. Its real and it is my life. I felt as though I was starting to come into my own and and was beginning to develop and feel a sense of normalcy, then I got hit by what I refer to as the Aspergers train. If anyone out there was diagnosed in adulthood (which I hear in common especially for females) I would like to know about your reaction, how it made you feel and how your dealing with it now? Are these feelings of detachement, confusion, resentment, guilt, reclusiveness a normal reaction?
