Hello, friends!

Last fall I started actively participating in the forums here, but then things got challenging in my personal life and I pulled away. Now I'm back and looking forward to interacting with everyone again.

When I was last here I started this thread: Straight Talk for Women. Men were welcome, too. :P Yesterday I posted an update (pretty wordy, but I couldn't help myself; I'm a writer after all). I'd love it if you were to read what I wrote.

I'm hoping to connect with older women who are self-identified as having high-functioning autism/Aspergers. It's pretty amazing that I am now a married woman and that I found someone who is very loving and patient. My husband really understands me and is my best friend. Trying to go through life without at least one friend who completely gets you and accepts you just as you are, was a very lonely experience. But I was decently content on my own and had a difficult time adjusting to this relationship.

Anyway, I'd love to hear from anyone who happens upon this thread. Thanks for stopping by!

Carla

Hello LovesMoose :) I'm in my 30's and am beginning to accept that there is a strong chance I am on the spectrum. I really struggle with most forms of social communication, except the virtual kind. I especially struggle with phones for some reason. I am very much a creature of routines and can get very absorbed in "interests". I am very sensitive to light and sound, which can often trigger migraines aswell, and also to taste and smell. I'm sensitive to products and touch, although I seem to be under-sensitive to pain for some reason (not going to complain about that though!)

I'm quite bad at maths and technology, although I have an excellent memory for numbers and random bits of information and I seem to be very good at picking up languages. If I'm really freaked out by something I do struggle to talk at all, but I think I learned to talk at the usual time and learned to read very young. I don't seem to have any manual dexterity issues, although I'm very clumsy and have no sense of balance or direction!

Anyway, I'm new to the forums, although I've been lurking for a while, so I thought I'd say hello and congratulations on your happy marriage :D

Hi, ClumsyNinja ~

Thanks so much for your post. Everything you described is very typical of people on the spectrum, as you seem to know. Since I'm self-identified, I've definitely allowed myself to waiver back and forth. Partly due to doubt and trying to convince myself that I'm just awkward and naturally anti-social, but also because it's a bit difficult accepting the possibility of having an actual disorder, especially with so little support available and knowing that, as a coping adult female, I won't receive a certified diagnosis. That's why I started the thread Straight Talk for Women.

Do you mind if we move things to over there? It would be awesome if you could copy and paste what you wrote and place it in that discussion thread. I hope to see you there!

Carla :P

Yup, that's exactly how I feel about it! Will make my way over to your thread (which I enjoyed reading last night actually :) )
