I'm not much of a forum user, so I never can remember whether to click "new topic" or "post reply". Please be patient with me while I get reacquainted with it. I'm 45, female, and I found out about Asperger's while I was bored at work about 7 years ago and was reading the dictionary. Then I read an article in the New York Times Magazine about autism in girls--and burst into tears at the end of it. So that's why I walked on tiptoes, ate the ends of burnt matches, took of my clothes at every chance (they were too tight/too loose/scratchy), slurped rain water off railings, couldn't stand showers (it tickled) or brushing my teeth (toothpaste burned my tongue) and never washed or brushed my teeth so I was really disgusting. That's why I didn't have any friends, couldn't ride a bike or skate, never remembered to bring home papers from school, had illegible handwriting until I was 10, couldn't do math but was in gifted classes for everything else. That's why I'm shy even around my own family. Fast forward 35 years and that's why I'm underemployed and so broke that I have to sneak and do this at work because I can't afford home internet. That's why 2 out of my 3 kids have ASD's (both boys--the girl is NT).

Hi Mindsigh! Use New Topics for new letters that you create/originate. Use Post Reply when responding to letter posts of other people. You did it right, as it appeared as a new post.

I first heard about Classic Autism in the late 1970s or early 80s, but it didn't bear any relation to me. I first learned about Asperger's about 8-10 years ago and immediately saw myself in the article I read. I continued to read any other such articles I came across over the next few years and saw myself in each one. I finally started researching it online, and took an online test, which confirmed my belief that I have Asperger's Syndrome. It was a great relief to finally know why I am so different from most people. I eventually found Wrong Planet and lurked here for about a year before joining. The site is interesting and has been helpful. I hope you like it here, too. :D
