Hello Everyone
Hello my name is James Hackett, I’m new here. I’ve just created an account and read a lot of the forum and posts and couldn’t tell you how much fun I have had and how much I can relate. So I want to finally introduce my self.
I am 28 and live in Charleston SC. I am currently in school for Film Making and I work at the Commissary as a food stoker (I don't really enjoy it but it makes money). I'm an easygoing kind of person always down for anything. People often consider me different and im used to it. I'm a curious person. While most people socialize about sports, Britney Spears, and the economy, I find my self trying to fit in but end up, once again, gazing into the sky thinking with wonder. I will spend an entire day following things like a train track, cave, or pathway just to see where it goes. I've gone on day long road trips just to fallow a train track or high voltage power line because it's unknown destination was to much to pass the curious urge. The unknown is so amazing to me.
I struggle with socializing and fallowing directions. I also get mad easily. I consider myself smart, but because I have trouble fallowing directions I have a hard time understanding what my friends are saying, passing classes at school, and get a decent job. After years of trying to pinpoint the problem I think it comes down to deficient short term memory, ADD, and making inferences. I struggle at times and feel like these mentioned things block my natural high intellectual ability but i don't give up. When I was a boy two doctors tested me and they both told my parents that I was going to have to be institutionalized. Not to brag or anything but I now have gotten a degree in multimedia and graduated high school with NHS because I believed that I could probably do more then what people said they thought I could.
Some of my obsessions include: steam locomotives, super mario bros, electrical pylons, electricity, the unknown, learning how to transcend fear/suffering, and spiritual energy work.
When I was a six, I learned how to swear at an early age and used to cuss a storm when playing Nintendo. When I was eight I used to take everything in the house apart to look at the circuit boards. I used to build large scale electrical pylons all over the yard using large tree limps and wires and my mom used to trip over the holes I dug. I used to go on the roof during lightning storms to get a better view of the lightning and the neighbors used to call always call the police. I used to get mad, get depressed, had a low self of steam until I realized enough is enough!
I believe our mind is a powerful thing. I'm a lot happier now because I've learned that life is all about perspective and I believe we can live every moment in life with enjoyment no matter what, it's not easy sometimes but I know it's possible. My life long dream is to fully transcend fear/suffering. I know it sounds impossible but I personally believe it's possible because everything is perspective. One time I took a two hour bike ride with only a t-shirt in 20 degree weather and I had the best moment in my life because I believed the "uncomfortable" feeling of cold is only a transient perspective. Once I practice more mastery in this, I hope teach others what I learn.
I hope to talk and get to know some of you guys!
