Hi,

I am in the process of getting a referral to be properly diagnosed for Asperger from my GP. I'm so glad there are sites like this and just wanted to introduce myself. I have always felt different and had trouble at school and work with bullying. Been depressed most of my adult life and been getting treatment for that since I was 18 (I'm 34 now). I could never understand why I continually had problems with people yet have thought about Aspergers for a long time although it wasn't until recently that I looked into it more and realised 'that's me!'.

Anyway, nice to be here. :)

Been kinda in the same boat as you. By my gf's suggestion I looked into aspergers and took a few tests online with the same result. It was just like a lightbulb went off. Anyways, Welcome to WP.

Thank you for your kind welcomes! :)

I have been getting treatment for depression, and this has been ongoing for years, and I thought there must be a reason behind my continual 'odd' behaviour. Every chance I give myself to get along I seem to alienate people without really doing anything I consider 'wrong'. I've always been bullied and have been signed off work since April this year with depression. I put in a grievance but they all closed ranks and the firm said my claims were 'unfounded'. I am just waiting around now to be laid off. It was a very male dominated workplace where you either join in or f*** off! People used to see that I was awkward. My speech is odd or mono, I am clumsy and apparently I walk 'like an old man', oh yeah and having a variety of facial tics didn't help. Simply I was an easy target. But this has been the same since school so I have noticed a trend or pattern. I have loads more examples but Aspergers fits me. Just hope my GP helps me. No doubt I will get fobbed off again, etc.

Nice to meet you all

:D

Welcome from another UK member.

I too am in the process fo being referred. I just discovered AS a few weeks ago at 30, It is a bit of a shocker when you have been living under the assumption that you are 'normal' with the odd quirk. So so much makes sense in terms of this though and it is getting silly the sheer ammount of traits I actually match up with now that I look into it properly.

How does this make you feel? Is it a relief to know finally? I have a bit of that feeling but also this scary sense of not really knowing who I am anymore. Do you get that?

Anyway, welcome to WP :)

Hi Sean. I like football (mainly the statistics). Yet I support Dover Athletic for what it's worth.

Si, I do feel that a lot of it may now make sense to me and I finally might have an answer. That all depends on my GP referring me though. I really hate having my fate in someone's hands.
