So I was professionally diagnosed with Aspergers and PTSD yesterday after going through neurotesting.

I'm still in a little bit of a shock and trying to process everything because I'm still in a state of mind of "No...this must be wrong...how could this be?" etc. I guess the stigma of the whole idea of having a form of Autism is really getting to me. I've been in a state of shame not wanting to tell anyone close to me let alone any of my family members really...not that it's any of anyone's business anyway right?

Anyway...a little bit about me...my name is Alyssa...but I like AK better as many people have issues saying it properly. I'm 23 years old. I live in Southern California. I'm a lesbian...but identify as queer...only because I have some identity issues I'm dealing with. Currently in a relationship -we will have been together 8 months on the 19th. I was diagnosed in the past with Major Depression caused by Anxiety and Attention Deficit Disorder. I'm Codependent and currently working CoDA steps. I also own a pug puppy named Charlie who just turned 5 months.

I guess that's it.

Welcome to Wrongplanet. I am also a female with Aspergers. I'm 18 and I too have gone through what you are feeling about being diagnosed with Aspergers. But I've found that knowing that I have aspergers has gotten me help to succeed in many areas of life. I also understand myself a little better and other people who are close to me can understand me too. I'm a tad quirky and a big softie.

Welcome to Wrong Planet! :D

Try to remember that having Asperger's Syndrome - or any neurological difference - does not make you in any way inferior. Learn to accept yourself for who you are. :)

Welcome to WP,
I can sort of imagine the difficulty of coming up on this knowledge suddenly. For me it was a suspicion for a long time prior to confirmation (to my own satisafction anyway) and was more a sense of relief in unmasking an unknown, as I had already lived with the practical difficulties of being 'different' for a long time. But if I had identified myself as typical in this respect and woke up one morning to find I was some sort of resident alien (as in from a different planet) I can imagine the floor dropping out and it taking a while to get my footing again. Hopefully once things do settle down things will actually make more sense to you now.

Welcome AK

I too Just discovered I am likely an aspie. I was reading a book about a guy growing up with AS and also how it affected his life as an adult and it was like the moment in the matrix when Neo takes the red pill. I just realised that this described my life perfectly. Still trying to come to terms with it and have spoken to my doctor who agreed it was worth sensing me off for a diagnosis. That might not be intil the end of the year though which means a long wait in limbo.

If your experience was anything like mine, I expect you suddenly saw how many different quirks and problems through your life all fit together. For me this makes a lot of sense of things I didnt understand before and answered a lot of questions. Still a hell of a shock to the system though.

Si
