Hello there. This is a long introduction but a good one. My names is ProvokesThinking here and I 'm from the Netherlands. It's pretty obvious that I have what is called Aspergers Syndrome. I talked with someone at school who was a professional in the field of autism and I actually had already the suspicion myself that I have had Aspergers Syndrome, after reading about autism myself, this was before I talked with psychologists or experts in the field of autism and after talking with them they completely agreed with me and thought I have autism. The reason that I wanted to stay undiagnosed is that I 'm aware that I taught myself without professional help social behaviour and some people don't even notice that I have Aspergers, so I don't really understand why you should let yourself be diagnosed if you can do it yourself already, the second reason is that it has certain disadvantages. You can for instance get problems when you want to get a driving license and you are never sure if people can see your diagnosis, officially they can't, but you never know what it's like in practical life, I think it's pretty naive to assume that because the law says so, it won't happen. The third reason is that I don't want to be seen as 'this Aspergers guy', I want people to look at me as the person I am, and having a diagnosis won't really help with that, because you start identifying yourself with such a diagnosis. I can see autistic people around me, for instance my brother, who is adjusting himself to the traits which belong to autism. I think myself this has to do with identity-forming. These are three, of which I think, good reasons, why I choose to not let myself being diagnosed.
My interests are philosophy, of which a lot of people say I should study that in university because they think I 'm very talented in this and arts, I can make realistic portraits of people, although it takes around 1 hour to make one of them. Further I 'm interested in languages, I can speak English, Dutch (my first language) and fluently German (almost as good as Dutch) and besides of that some French and Spanish (I couldn't learn Spanish in school so I taught it myself). Further I 'm currently teaching myself Romanian, so I can see the connections between Spanish and French, the interesting thing about it is that it's a Roman language spoken in the Balkan. I 'm also learning Russian (I really like the vowels and such of this language, but it's hard though so I haven't practiced it a lot), some Chinese, Japanese and Turkish (I really like the sounds of Turkish, but the grammar is very different and hard to learn). I 'm very interested in linguistics as you can see and people advice me to study linguistics too.
Another interest of me is psychology. Most people think I 'm a psychologist if I talk about what I think is the reason why people do certain things. I just analyze their behaviour and I think that makes a good theory of why people do certain things. It's a misconception that people with Aspergers Syndrome don't have empathy, they can actually realise what other people are thinking or feeling, it is just interpreted in a different way, instead of intuitively, I think people with Aspergers Syndrome see emotions and thoughts as elements which fit in a certain structure, which can be analysed. That's how I look at it.
Further I 'm a contributor to the Dutch and English uncyclopedia, because of my sense of humor most articles of me won't get removed.
I think that was it, if you have any questions, ask them.
