Hi I have a teen son that was dx with Autism at 3 1/2. He is mostly non-verbal and when he does say things alot of time i don't understand it or its a part from a movie he likes to watch. I am currently homeschooling him and looking for some ways to teach him to communicate more. I'm thinking learning to type/write since it appears that verbal language is difficult for him. I'm hoping to get some helpful information from this forum as the resources where i live are little.

thanks

Yes, typing/writing is easier, me included. Although something like texting is more readily available, given he has a phone.

Yes, it's worth a try. Written language has always worked better for me than the spoken sort.

Well, I should constrain that. I'm more comfortable communicating with written words. I don't get a lot of feedback. In the spoken domain, though, I get around eighty percent negative responses. No feedback at all is good compared to that.
