Hello, I've come to this site out of curiosity. I'm unsure whether I have asperger's syndrome and so I'm here to learn more. I've already read quite a lot on the subject and on autism in general but I've still not come to a conclusion so I thought this place would help.

I think it's partly because I don't want to come to a conclusion. I'm thirty years old and I can't see any way a diagnosis would help me. I already have numerous coping mechanisms and finding for certain that I do have aspergers might cause me to neglect focusing on ways to adapt.

On the other hand, I've become a bit obsessed with the subject and I want to have a clear verifiable answer.

Hm, I didn't mean to go on so much. So...hi.

Hello and welcome,

I am 50+ and am still not officially diagnosed AS, but everything fits so well I am fairly certain of it. For me, coming to this conclusion was a relief. I have official dx of ADHD and clinical depression and am on medication for both, but I still had so many problems relating to other people that my major adaption was either to mimic other peoples behavior, which only worked about half the time, or to avoid social situations which was much easier.
Learning more about AS and about this site in particular, has been positive in that I am finding resources to help me continue to adapt. I may be 50+ but I am not dead. I don't believe learning that you have AS would cause you to stop finding ways to adapt, but that is just an opinion from the void as I don't really know you.

The problem is that I often use excuses to stay in my routine. If I'm invited to do something new or meet different people, I'll try to use a slight headache or a long week as an excuse to decline the invitation. I'll usually fight these impulses but I'm afraid that a diagnosis of aspergers might cause me to give more weight these excuses rather than recognise them for what they are, a fear of change.

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

That's the thing; Aspies hate change. There are few out there who tolerate big changes.

Tbh, I was actually diagnosed with AS at the age of 4 and I'm still not fully convinced. It's a confusing subject.
