Looking for childrens' social groups in Newcastle Upon Tyne
My grandson is probably a typical Aspie. He likes his alone time and is on the computer too much. He does well with his family and gets stressed with too many people and too much noise. At times he wonders why he doesn't have friends or at least one good friend., He is not outgoing as far as initiating contact with boys his age and doesn't always respond positively when others approach him. My concern is that he will feel bad about himself or become depressed as he gets older. Are there any groups for younger Aspies in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area? Hope someone can suggest something. Thanks from a concerned grandmother, sbeau79@yahoo.

I think you should have more evidence than simply thinking "he is probably a typical aspie". What if he is just shy, or actually has a different condition? I'm not saying you're wrong, but, for his own sake, it might be best to get him properly evaluated before trying to place him in groups meant for children with Aspergers. You wouldn't want him growing up thinking he has Aspergers when he really doesn't, or thinking he does and making it his social identity for him only to find as a teen that he really doesn't have it. Not to mention that some support groups may prefer the child have a formal diagnosis, and it can also be very valuable if he needs any help in school.
