I just wanted to say hello to get started. I made a New Year's Resolution to be more sociable -- so I think this counts. I am not officially diagnosed....but since I am a pediatric Occupational Therapist and work with kids who are diagnosed (or not) somewhere on the spectrum, I think I can safely say that I have aspergers.

My friends (the few I have told) look at me like I am nuts when I try to talk with them about having aspergers (and they are health professionals too!) So I feel pretty alone with all of this. I also have ADD which I can't get meds for (have all sorts of side effects).

Basically, I learned to "fake it" in the social world and I guess I am pretty good at it ... but I would not call it successful -- because I know I am faking it. I just feel so alone these days. I hoped it would be helpful to have a place online to find some kindred spirits.

Welcome Rosie.What kind of OT do you do with your kids...and do you like it?I am in health services and trying to figure out what to do next(currently a PCA with DD residents.)

Hope you enjoy the site.I find it the perfect socialization because I can leave when to.

I have been an OT for over 30 years -- I love my work! I feel like I can help kids, some of whom have similar problems to the ones i have struggled with throughout my life! It is a lot of work to get into the field now -- so I am glad i was trained before it got so difficult. But, if you have strong science background and interests, i am sure you could manage it. You can check into OT through the national organization website at AOTA.org.
