I was diagnosed with autistic specrum or aspergers when I was thirteen. I've been a social loner all my life not really knowing how to interact with others so usually try to not interact with them. I have unusual interests and have strange fixations with certain things and get very repetitive which annoys people, I don't really know how to be around people so i'm very isolated. I have a wide range of other mental health issues also. I don't understand some types of humour and see things in a "black or white" way. People usually give up on me because of my social awkwardness. I have a tendency to go mute in difficult situations and can't cope if my daily routine is changed or change in any way. Hopefully people here may understand.

Hey DarkSkies, welcome to WP

Many on here face the same issues you describe, to varying degrees, myself included. Do you feel a desire to be around people and socialize or are you prefectly content being all alone (or somewhere in between)?

With people who are similar to me I like being around but still need a lot of my own time. I tend not to socialise with people who will never understand and judge me because of my problems. I was thought to be a schizoid personality to some degree also.

I see. Do you have some of those understanding/similar people in your life?

Ah, is that fullfiling enough or not? Memories are nice, but they can also be a bit depressing if your current situation is less than ideal IMO. What sort of unusual interests do you have? And, do you (or you would like to) share those interests with others?

DarkSkies, welcome! I am new here, also, and I can relate to SO much of what you're saying! i am very slow to pick up on certain humor (if I get it at all!) and I also tend to see things in black & white. I am a home-body and get very nervous and sometimes panic when I have to attend a social function. I don't seem to be able to hang on to friends for very long (most aren't willing to get past the acquaintance stage with me!)
I imagine you will be in good company in this forum. I am already starting to feel more comfortable here and the more posts I read, the more I identify with the people here. I feel less alone now than I have in a long time...knowing there are so many others like me fills me with hope!! I am hoping you will feel the same way :)
