Hello, everyone!
I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was about 3 or 4 but I've only recently gotten a full grasp on how it's affected my life. When I was younger I was always content to be by myself but as I've grown older the desire to connect with people and make friends has developed more, and unfortunately my social skills haven't developed with it. I've dealt with the effects of it, but it's honestly only been the last year that I've really put all the pieces together to understand how Asperger's has affected my life. As a result of fully understanding all the difficulties that Asperger's has caused me and basically having to deal with them all at once now that they're in my conscious, I've experienced a lot of anxiety and depression in the past year, and a lot of confusion as to where my life is going (I graduate college in June). I've recently made the decision to go through counseling (this will be my first time), and I'm really hoping that this is a good step toward finally getting some peace of mind.
I hope that this forum will be another useful tool in dealing with and understanding my Asperger's. I'm glad to see that a lot of stuff I deal with that seemed so unique to me is actually stuff that others are dealing with or have dealt with as well. Anyway, I look forward to interacting with you all and learning from everyone's different experiences.
