I'm recently diagnosed. Weird, isn't it, having to readjust one's self-identity? Believing all your life you're one thing when really you're another?

Anyway, I'm female and in my thirties. Howdy :)

Howdy to you, too.

Why would you have to re-adjust your identity? It is not as though you weren't autistic before. The label doesn't change who you are, it just gives an explanation for why you are that way.

I agree. It does explain things. But just because you are told you have it does not mean that you are any different. You are who you are. The diagnosis just provides you with an understanding of why you are you (or at least elaborates on it).

I thought I wasn't autistic, now I know I am. It isn't me that's changed, but my whole perception of myself, including retrospectively, now has a different filter. I haven't changed, but my self-identity - the way I understand myself - inevitably has.

Thanks :D .

Do you appreciate all things cone-shaped, or is it traffic cones which are your particular interest? Just wondered...

lol well it's a fading interest, but traffic cones it is. There was a big cone appreciation thread in the random discussion forum!

Quite right. Traffic cones are rarely given the credit they're due.
