Hi folks, I have been lurking on and off since perhaps 5 years ago.

I am a 23-year-old female, grew up in a developing country. Years ago when I first discovered autism and Aspergers I was pretty shocked at how well some of the traits described me. Later on, however, I got carried away by all the things life threw at me. The possibility of having autism/Asperger's is always at the back of my mind but I have tried really hard not to think about it. I thought it wouldn't be good for understanding myself if I rush to slap a label on me. I probably fit the social awkwardness part but not the repetitive/inflexible part.

Anyway, recently I have heard about autism again in a lecture. And gosh, my face turned bright red when the lecturer gave some of the autistic behaviour examples. Yes, I did line up toys when I was young. I did struggle to greet people back or look them in the eyes. I did have some weird routines. Looking at Youtube videos on stimming, I realised I have definitely done some of that when I was a kid.

Now as an adult, I don't do most of those things any more. Except perhaps being socially odd and unable to maintain relationships with people. I don't see myself as 'normal', nor do I see myself as having autism. I used to have traits but somehow I have 'outgrew' them.

Do I still need help? I do, social wise, I am a mess. I have gotten into troubles simply because I can't understand social situations well. Somehow that got explained by a diagnosis of depression. And I happily take the pills every morning because it gives me energy to deal with the real world and makes me feel less discouraged when I make a mistake.

I feel that I am right in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps I have something else totally different. Will it matter? Probably not too much. I don't think the system is that supportive anyway.

Anyhow, it is good to be back.

I am in the same situation as you are. I had far more autistic traits when i was a child. I outgrew many of them but i'm still terrible at some social aspects. Being in group conversations is the worst one for me, for whatever reason I'm barely able to say a thing when I'm in a group conversation, the more people the quieter I get.
