Hello from Canada!

I have just today gotten a confirmed diagnosis of Aspergers.
I wanted to wait to post my greeting, because even though I knew that that's what I have, I wanted to be sure.

I'm 36 and have made it through life quite well, mostly by imitating and mimicking people. Even still, I'm always the 'odd one'...the one that people find amusing and slightly immature. That's fine by me!

I think in 3-D, and have a high IQ. I'm into logic puzzles, and patterns and maps are my friends.
But this wasn't good enough for applying to the 'real' world, and I spent most of my adult life in poverty and doing menial work.

That was until 3 years ago, when I realised that I really like working with wood, and applied for a job with a company that makes beautiful timber frame houses.

Timber frames are basically a giant puzzle: the massive timbers are cut on a high tech cnc machine (which I run) and then are joined together with intricate notches, mortises and tenons, and then pegged together to create the skeleton of a house.
The nature of this job requires a mind that can visualise in 3-D, and be able to 'see' how the impact of gravity will affect each joint in the building.

So, guess what?
I found the right place - and they pay me very well for the way that I think! And they don't care if my hair is pink!
(OOhhhh...she's a freakin' poet...!)

Oh, and another aspie trait that I have is that I tend to go on about my work...! I suppose it's because it always amazes me when I accomplish something 'normal'. I never would have pictured myself being able to do what I do.

And I have 3 awesome kids!
And 3 not awesome ex's! That's another very long story :?
And I like living alone, but not all the time...
And I've been told that I'm very ambiguous....I wasn't quite sure what that meant when I was told, but I think I get it now...sort of...

I would also like to find any local aspies...this may be difficult in this part of the world; I'm pretty remote.
But if you're out there send me a message - It would be interesting to meet someone with a similar head space in person!

BTW - Thanx for the forum and site!! !

Thanx all for your welcomes!

Flagg - It's funny you mentioned the curbies! The psychiatrist that I saw asked me if I wanted any meds. I asked her why she thought I would want that when there's nothing wrong with me. She told me she thought that was funny and she really liked my outlook on life. Maybe she needs the meds.

Starr - My avatar is a painting named 'Girl with the Green Eyes' by Tamara de Lempicka, one of my favorite artists. Google her stuff - it's incredible!

diseased - The job was pure luck. I knew a girl that was quitting there, and she told me they needed a replacement for her. She did general labour, so I figured I could handle that. They hired me, and after a few weeks they realised that I understood the architects plans and had a keen interest in the process, so they kept moving me up and up. When I figured I had learned everything each new position had to offer, I asked to learn something else, and they kept teaching me. I know almost every aspect of the job at this point. Unfortunately, I really suck at showing others how to do stuff, so I can't train people. But it also frustrates me to no end when people do things wrong. And I can't tell them how to do it right. So there are still hurdles for me. Plus the part that I cannot read people for the life of me...that has gotten me into some trouble...
And, no, I don't know of any openings on the island...but just go and ask...the worst anyone can say is 'no'.

hmmhmmhmm... for the CNC'ing, I'm assuming you use AutoCAD?
Never messed with that but I'm pretty proficient in 3DStudio... may have to investigate this... thanks for the idea!

If you have any type of experience with AutoCAD or any other design program, I'll tell ya, they're screaming for people.
That's my next step in the spring...learning design.
Go with it, man!
