Hello All,

I am new to the forum (as I am certain you can tell by my join date). I stumbled along here as I have someone who works for me who informed me that he has Aspergers. I decided to do some exploration on it to know what I need to do to promote his well-being while he works here, if any at all. I also wanted to learn a bit more about it.

Well, as I am reading the perspectives here I suddenly had the thought that perhaps I have Aspergers as well. I seem to fit many, if not all, of the characteristics of a person with Aspergers. I dont know how to go about getting diagnosed or even if I should. Either way, I am glad to read the support and see the different perspectives on the condition. I echo much of what I have read over the last week visiting the forums (although I only signed up today).

So, there I am in a nutshell (can someone let me out now??)

Thanks for reading...

Hi FerrariFan,

if you read around the forums there are many debates over the pros and cons of getting a formal diagnosis. Many people are happy with doing the research (lots of reading and some online tests) and recognizing their lives are explained so well by Aspergers that they don't need a formal sign off. For a lot of people there is no actual benefit to being diagnosed (no extra support or funding), so it is purely an official confirmation of what they already know. Others prefer to know for sure. You just need to do what is right for you.

Anyway, have a read around the forums. There is one dedicated to Work which may help both you and your employee, and there are also some good books about Aspergers at Work which you can google. I am of the personal opinion that if you feel at home here, then you probably belong here.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. :D

Thank you for your kind response.

I am still very early in my exploratory phase, so as I learn more I will do exactly as you say and research to see if there is any real benefit for me to be diagnosed or maybe if I even have it. Right now, I have a sneaking suspicion that I probably do as it would explain a LOT thats gone on with me in my life, although there is a lot more behind that.

You are very welcome.

I remember where you are well - in the early investigation stage. I was there myself only earlier this year. I read so much that my eyes hurt. Good luck with your research, I hope you find some answers.
