I edit on Wikipedia all the time, especially for population data, sports info, and to get a really local feel for any place on the globe. You can look up ANY populated place on the planet and find out exact info about its ethnic and religious makeup. Where else could you find out that people in Azerbaijan hate Iranians?

I really like the discuss section, because you can ask a question about a far away place and get an answer from someone familiar with it. For example, I asked on the Anchorage, AK, US page why there is no bridge to connect the city across to vacant land, since it is rapidly running out of room to grow and learned that that is the 'bridges to nowhere' project.

I have basically written the University of Louisville, Louisville Cardinals, Old Louisville, and related pages from scratch. Check them out if you like

I use Wikipedia all the time when I need info on fictional characters from video games I like. The article for Samus Aran is so big now.

I agree with you. There's nothing about Nintendo on Encarta!

The problem with a page like the one I do a lot of work on, Legends of the Hidden Temple, is that people think they know more about it than they actually do, and so will frequently cast into the vastness of oblivion any statements that they didn't see themselves, and restore them with flat-out incorrect replacements. It's happening at a faster rate than I can keep up with, so the article is actually getting worse each day.

It's hit or miss on some parts. There is a lot of data missing on failed projects for military vehicles, and some that is completely wrong. I don't worry too much about it thanks to a lifetime subscription to Jane's.

Wikipedia is a great place to start. Sometimes it's all I need. Other times it points me in some good direections to get more. I like the source - people, not academia.

I have used Wikipedia to do research about the Olympic Games and Roger Bannister.
