Why are greetings so damn awkward as is telling s**t about yourself.. (sorry for the verbal diarrhoea up front)
Joined today but am not sure how to start, so will watch an learn for a bit, group stuff is strange.
I joined after a few communication difficulties at home and after seeing a post from someone felt I actually had something to offer so made an account so I could post, the act of verbalising my thoughts on the subject was actually quite useful to help me formulate better vocal expression of what I mean for later. (I'm rambling, but this was part of the reason for the join)
I am 41 and was found recently with an Asperges mindset and ADHD after certain traits became a bit too apparent (I also have a few motor function peculiarities, yet these do not hinder me generally. The main culprit being Trichotillomania although it is just pulling and twisting now, i can thankfully avoid the creation of baldspots thesdays, funniest thing is how often people think I am waving at them because I am staring zoned out into the distance twisting my hair manically, if you are reading this, IM NOT WAVING!
I do still have difficulty accepting that Aspergers is a disorder and my views can rub a lot of people the wrong way, although my views on most things tend to do that anyway.
I have also been quite lucky in that I have had a good career, lucky because I am self taught and have no formal education I left school at 16. (My school adventures were quite something, In a religious schooling system I was the devil incarnate.). Also lucky in that my way of thinking brought value to the business I was in and I managed to perform quite well and not stick out to much which allowed me to grow over the years, the more you learn the better you can adapt and see what you need to fill those areas that you struggle in. I see it as no different from employing a plumber to fix the water, skills need people with those abilities.
I am a director of a creative/technical group of 50 people which surprises a lot of people, but the way I have tended to cope is to fill my gaps with others excellence. I have been lucky in the choosing people with the right skills and mindset to fill the gaps in my abilitie, I found partners who were highly organised and structured people who could manage the administrative tasks and could pick up what I dropped without asking, alone I would not be able to do these things as no-one would get paid, the lights would go out and I would end up spending my day figuring out how to reprogram a bluetooth dongle to transmit a signal to open the cupboard door when I put on my shoes whilst picking up radio Luxemburg or something, oh it probably would need LED's too, most things do ;P)
Issues -
listening to people. I have actually spent so much mental effort trying to really listen to someone in a meeting that I didn't hear a word they said.
Understanding why people don't understand what appear to be quite basic logical concepts.
Honesty - still don't get how this has a grey scale, whilst truth is relative to the perceiver it does not seem to me something we should measure like temperature.
Acceptance - To me most people do most things wrong, inefficient and poorly thought out, I have learnt to stop telling people this, although I will still have to walk away from someone who allows superstition in any form to be part of the decision making process.
RAMBLING - as is evident, I use too many words for most situations and conversations.
i'll stop now and just say hi again. ![]()
