Hi folks,

I'm looking for info, validation, whatever ... suspect I'm aspie, but not in a position for testing. FYI my heart is 27, but my body is 47yo. Was always the "weird, egocentrical brain" in school. Still don't have friends much. God saved my life by sending me a husband very like myself ... he's the only person I've ever met who gets my jokes. We have two lovely kids, one of whom might be aspie also.

I took the aspie quiz at rdos.net and it says I'm likely aspie. But there are large areas of disconnect with the usual symptom lists. I have the social and sensory issues. But I've always been well-coordinated, excellent pianist, was invited to help start a gymnastics team at my high school (but they couldn't get the money, oh well). Wondering whether I'm legitimately aspie, or just a jerk who's looking for an excuse. Ha ha.

I saw a thread in the women's section about "male brain in female body." Yeah, that's me. Women don't like me ... for a long time, I assumed they were intimidated by my vocabulary/facility with math/whatever ... maybe not. Men don't have the time of day for me ... well, that's obvious, I'll never be "one of the boys." Alien, I guess. One of the short ones. Good thing I love sci-fi. Ha ha.

Can you recommend further info or help with informal dx or just tell me I'm not nuts?
Thanks, Karen

welcome karen! You sound like an aspie to me too. Beware that many of the official descrptiopns of aspiness miss the mark by a bit. Like the clumsiness. . .I for instance cannot play a piano (or anything else excepting harmonica) but I drive well and in my youth was fast enough on a motorcycle that several guys who'd thought of themselves as fast had reason to rethink that once they'd met me!

Oh, I am a girl too (hag: 53). You are not alone. You now have a tribe.

Aspies, the same as everyone else - just a tad wieder! :D

Welcome to Wrong Planet. As for diagnosis: remember this is a "spectrum" condition
we come in all kinds of "colors, wavelengths, and flavors". We are just not on the same
page as most the world. 8)

Thanks!

Bazza, that's something I was wondering about ... if I "out" myself as an aspie, so what? How does that help anyone? I had psychotherapy back in the early 80's, which emphasized cognitive therapy, which I saw somewhere is one of the few useful approaches to psych/counseling for aspies ... my psych was a really great woman ...

So I'm wondering, do you all find it useful to identify yourself as aspie to others, I mean outside the family, etc.? Or is that TMI for other people?

Nutbag, :) I always wanted a tribe, thanks!

Thanks,
Karen

No! (IMHO).

I have told some people I believe I have a development disorder which means I don't give or receive much body language etc. I would not recommend saying AS or autism as most people don't understand what it means anyway.

PS - it took me a while to get "TMI" - I mistook it for TM1 (shorthand for Themachine1, a member here). Now I get it - too much info

I am self diagnosed, and have a general distrust of official opinions of me. Idescovered my aspiness recently, and in a state of extatic joy have announced to nearlt all my pals (NT, high quality). No bg deal, they all knew that I'm half abubble off plumb anyway! :D
