I hope I'm doing this right by starting a new topic. I've been lurking for quite a while, but recently had my self-diagnosis confirmed by a counsellor who works in this area, and at age 55, that is all the confirmation I need (since a true formal diagnosis would cost me thousands).
I am female, and finally understanding that I am on the spectrum has answered so many questions about my life, and why it often didn't seem to work very well.
The name of this site is so appropriate - I really do feel like I've been living on the wrong planet all my life, and have finally found others of my species. I will probably be spending time mostly in the forums for women and for older adults, but I also plan to contribute elsewhere, so I greet all of my aspie "compatriots". Nice to finally meet you all.

I too am female, 58 years old, and self-diagnosed as Asperger's, because what is the point in a formal diagnosis when I know very well who I am (and also my two children have Asperger's so I'm pretty familiar with it.

Isn't it amazing how much suddenly makes sense when you realize what is going on, and has been going on for 50+ years!
