Hello WrongPlanet!
Hello everyone! I've been gone for years but just came back tonight. Feel free to read my rather lengthy re-introduction if you'd like to.
I have no official diagnosis of Aspergers's Syndrome, but I know that I have some traits as well as other family members on the Autism spectrum. Certain low-frequency sounds put me into a sort of trance, as does glitter (especially Christmas ornaments). I use stimming to calm down. One example is that it's easier for me to read and absorb dense materials while literally rocking back and fourth. I did this in the library today and had to stop myself when I realized what I was doing. I do things like pace back and fourth and flap my hands to feel better when I'm by myself. I'm very self conscious about this though...once my roommate caught me and, mortified, I told her I was scared by a bug.
However on the flip side, I tend to be good with dealing with most people (I can make eye contact and read people fairly easily) can speak very clearly and lots of noises can actually calm me down. From the outsider's point of view, I'm likely completely neurotypical. Because of this, I doubt that I would be diagnosed if I went for a diagnosis, but you never know. It took many years to hide my stimming, but I still do it in private to calm down. To be honest, I'm always scared that someone will catch me. I don't really feel that I need a diagnosis for closure to anything. Either way, I have enjoyed the company of people on the spectrum.
I enjoy 3d modeling, robotics, CNC machines, sports anime, model-making and art. I'm into programming/scripting as well: I am learning Python at the moment. If anyone wants to talk or has similar interests, it would be nice to meet you.
Thank you very much for reading.
