Hi Everyone,

I'm in my thirties and live in northern Europe. I've never been officially diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder, but I've been thinking about it since very early age. My little brother, who is almost 20 years younger than me, has had similar problems as me since early childhood, and he has been diagnosed with AS - which, of course, has made my suspicions even stronger. I'm so happy there has been help available for him - it was quite different in the 80's, when I was in kindergarten and started elementary school. I'm now thinking about whether or not to try to get evaluated. It's not easy to get evaluated in my country, if you are a grown-up and have been diagnosed with mental disorders (in my early twenties, depression and avoidant personality disorder). I've also had epilepsy since I was 11.

I'm currently a college student, but I know I'll probably never be able to get and keep a job after I graduate, because the field I'm studying is just too demanding for me socially. So, I don't really know, what kind of future lies ahead, and it scares me a bit.

I live together with my girlfriend, and we have a lovely little furry friend, whose picture I have as an avatar. I'm interested in medicine, especially neurology, and other natural sciences. I love cats, visual arts, writing and reading, and learning new languages. I'm an internet addict; right now I'm obsessed with a farm game called Big Farm. I don't really go out that much, as I don't have any real-life friends nowadays.

I've belonged to a lot of discussion boards and social networking sites, but I'm very bad at keeping up conversations both in real life and online, so I tend to be quite a passive member. Nice to meet all of you, though! I hope you all have a nice weekend!

I appreciate your sincerity and openness.

You sound nice.

I'm glad you have both a cat and a close friend.

I have a male, black cat, named "Roo".

I was mentioning in another post here (in this forum) (to a new member who has a cat as her avatar) that there's a great book -- which I own (and so does this, other member) -- called "all cats have aspergers" ...or SOMEthing like that...and it's really good. It looks and reads like a young children's book (lotsa pics and not many words) but it's words are inspiring for adults, too. (I feel proud of myself when i read it, cuz it just talks about how it's ok to be different.)

(Edit: the name of that cat-book is: "All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome" by Kathy Hoopmann)

I'm 38 and undiagnosed, too, so i understand what you're saying when you say that the 1980s weren't the ...well...i mean...there wasn't much recognition of aspergers. If you were like me, you knew, very well, that you were unique...and making and keeping friends was so hard.

I think it's cool you're from England**(**see msg below)

I'm from Kansas, usa.

My special interests include writing, drumming and following college basketball teams (their statistics) in the autumn and winter (or even year-round) :(

:)

I'm glad you're scared about how you'll ever use your degree because so am I!

I have a Masters yet haven't "used it" for six years.

There were a fair amount of neuro classes involved in my studies. I enjoyed them.

The "real" "working World" was so different than college life (many social demands), so i "get" your fears. I'm very sorry for your fears. I "get" it.

No one can ever take your education away from you: remember that!

With undiagnosed asd, you and I were just ...well...we somehow just ended-up on a very difficult path.

We're smart-enough to excell in school, but our natural inclination isn't ...

...(sigh)...

...our people skills suck.

LoL

I'm sending a smile to you, tho.

Ps:

One, last thing:

It's cool you enjoy ...or are extra... or...

(How should I say this?)

I like the portuguese and french languages, esp. portuguese.

So!

That's cool that you have a language that YOU like, too!

**Edit:

Wait!

You never said you were from "England"!

WHAT was I THINKing!! !! Sorry!

Ok.
"Northern Europe"!

Got it!
