My name is Andy, I'm 34 and I've reciently been diagnosed with Aspergers. As my user name says I am a firefighter (15 years volunteer and 10 years paid as an industrial fire department) as well as working on an ambulance for the last 12 years. I have found my analytical thinking with aspergers assists me with patient care and assessment of the fire scene. The one area that has not been there and helped point me to getting a diagnosis is my inability to make friends, my wife also diagnosed me shortly after we were married by my not wanting a lable that now I embrace as my identity kept me from seeking treatment until now.
Believe it or not I function very well under adrenaline on an emergency or even in a routine transport in EMS because of the scripted nature of the work. I welcome feedback and have learned a lot lurking on the site until as of late when I registered.
