Hi, I just found this site by accident. Looks like a nice place you have here!

I'm definitely Asperger's, although undiagnosed. Just lucky to have gotten all the way through school without enough trouble to even try to be diagnosed. Then again, the school focused more on eradicating my mother's Boston accent from me in speech therapy than anything else, so...

My little brother, on the other hand, is 12 and diagnosed, so I spend quite a bit of time 'translating' between him and my mother.

By the by, I'm gay. Talk about double the damage, just living in a small town in Texas with that is bad enough without being able to socialize well. All things considered, I've gotten along pretty well.

It's great to be here!

welcome to Wrong Planet! Don't you know any other gay people in your town? Where I live, there are thousands of gay people, and compared to aspies, they seem to be able to do a better job fitting in.

Alex: Not too many, unfortunately. You are right though, they do tend to fit in better due to the ability to (sometimes) act differently.

Actually, I do currently have a boyfriend. Other than him, I only know of two couples and one other guy, although his parents keep him on a tight leash for some reason. Small towns being how they are and Texas being the single most homophobic state, it's not at all easy to meet or anything. An announcement of say, a gay-straight alliance group would result in a mob of armed protesters... And given that most of the police force would rather be IN said mob, they have no desire to control it effectively. That situation is steadily improving, though.

Just to give a basic idea of the local mindset, I've been threatened with knives on a few occasions and even got shot at once.
Of course, that does have a bit to do with my problems back in high school of, er, hitting too strongly on people. The common confusion of coming out combined with the social handicap of Asperger's is a somewhat volatile combination.

Welcome. I guess your part of Texas is more homophobic than mine. There are 21 guys in my wing of the dorm and 5 of them are openly gay (I'm not one of them). Or maybe that's just college...
