I've been reading some of the other nebie posts, and have seen a lot in common with myself. I first stumbled across Asperger's when my family was doing research for my brother (who is mildly autistic). Is this a common way to discover AS? While I have never been diagnosed, I am 99% sure that I have AS. I have so many of the signs, it's scary. Is diagnosis important?

DX is only as important as you make it.
If it gets you treatment, then by all means, go for it. If you REALLY have to know, get one.
Otherwise, it's just another piece of paper.

I found out about AS a few months ago. I was looking up autism, because I wasn't really sure what it was and wanted to know. Stumbled onto AS and it seemed to describe me completely. I personally have no desire to get diagnosed.

i found out about AS by reading an autism article that was laying out at my lab.

after putting it down... i have never felt so creeped out. it had a lot of personal account by AS and HFA people... and just hearing their own words for how they feel/are... it coulda been me talking for most of it.

so i started researching stuff on my own and here I am... my new home

Hi and welcome...odd your parents didn't pick anything up with you as being different considering your sibling is mildly autistic... diagnosis is your choice, I am seeking one myself. I like your username, by the way.

AS is too broad to be personally defining. For all my time around here I have yet to match a pair, yet everyone fits in. Talents and problems we have in abundance, just not the same ones.

I always thought freeform variations of intelligence, talents, skills, perceptions, were called personality.

It seems Professionals lack personality, and are now trying to explain it away as AS.

We did get this web site out of the deal, this is my tribe, a lot more fun than most.

Thanks for all of the warm responses everyone. As far as my parents noticing something, they seem to think I may have AS, but they don't seem to want to have me diagnosed. This could be due to some of the experiences with my brother's therapist. I think they were expecting a miracle cure or something.
