Hi, I'm from Italy and I may have Asperger's. I had many syntoms especially as a little kid. In this presentation I will describe what seems to indicate Asperger's.
I had some kind of social impairment, but I do understand other people feelings and I can understand nonverbal language. Until recently I had severe problems with emotional attachment. Now everything seems fine, socially.
I shut down or escape when I have a failing romantic interaction.
I've always had restricted interests. The earliest I can recall was Titanic in 1998. I used to draw that ship until I was 11 or 12. Then, in 1999, I became interested in genealogy and some videogames, including Final Fantasy VII. In 2000 everything seemed more normal; I had interchangeable interests like pokémon, digimon etc. In 2002 I became interested in Final Fantasy IX, in 2005 in meteorology, in 2006 in geographical history, in 2008 in etymology and indo-european linguistics.
I have some sort of addiction to childhood, so childhood interests are still important today; for example, I will play Final Fantasy IX in the foreign language I want to learn in that moment.
I have difficulties if I try to become interested in a broad topic. For example, I cited two games as "interests", because it is difficult to me to become interested in many different games, I prefer to analyse in many ways a single game. There are others games I like anyway, maybe 12 or 13.
I am clumsy, always hitting the furniture in the house, I break things quite often, I cannot cook if precise instructions are not given, I cannot differentiate my diet if I live on my own, I speak to myself quite often if I am alone or nobody I know is around. I have difficulties in understanding social norms as sitting while I eat, I had something similar to gender dysphoria and many other idiosyncrasies, other than a diagnosed OCD. I've always been sensitive to teasing, to which I would react shouting. I have some sort of echolalia as I quasi randomly say entire sentences took from show I watched as a kid; for example, if I want to say just "forse sì, forse no" [maybe, maybe not] while I speak with others, I will usually say the entire line from Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy show "forse sì, forse no, ma se tu mi rinfrescassi la memoria" "allora lo hai visto oppure no?" ["maybe, maybe not, but if you refreshed my memory", "did you see him or not?"]. I have likings for no apparent reason, for example I like Czech republic a whole lot, but I don't know its language, its culture, its people or its environments. Maybe it is because my grandmother's name was Boemia [Bohemia] and she cooked good things, and I like the geographical shape of Czech republic. As a kid I would shout the name of Croatia or Saudi Arabia for no reason, but that was fun.
I don't know if I have Asperger's but I want to compare myself to all of you anyway.
