Hi All
new to this i'm 44 - like most, my life feels like im on the wrong planet - i have always struggled with life in general - No friends(by choice) i have a girlfriend who is not sure who i am either. She thinks im a jackel and hyde kind of guy but supports me even when im been the real me.I work in mental health and for the past year have been working with aspies. In the last few months ive been researching Aspergers and it was like reading a diary on me.My concerns are i am very high functioning at work and will act my way through the day only to come home so tired mentally and physically and not wanting to engage with anyone in my home life.Social events if planned cause me so much stress and i end up having an argument just so i can get out of going.the list goes on .My question is I spoke to a Psychologist today on the phone who said by speaking to me does not think i'm Aspie by the way i present on the phone - my minds all over now as it felt real to me and my broken jigsaw of life was beginning to connect together - whats your views people - is he right ???

Hey sapman81 welcome. :sunny:

Personally I don't see how any psychologist could tell over the phone whether you have an ASD or not. It takes an in person visit to make a determination of that kind. I'd say, keep pursuing the matter.

Good luck, I hope you find your answer. :jester:

It's possible he's right but I would not trust an opinion when he'd not met me either.

Sometimes people can make an educated guess if they have a lot of experience with adults on the spectrum. There aren't enough professionals who have experience with adults, though.

It's hard to get people past first impressions, are there other people you can ask about this besides this one psychologist?

LOL...the psychologist hasn't seen you in person; how could he/she determine if you're on the Spectrum or not?

It's like somebody determining that someone is autistic based upon what he/she wrote.

Isn't it called a "spectrum" for a reason? Everyone manifests it a bit differently.

I hope you can get a second opinion.
