Hello all! I would like to get to know the Aspies out there. I find it a bit disheartening that Aspies often must hide their special interests in order to fit in socially. But, where's the self identity in that? I'm curious what you're into...what's your special interest? Hobbies, lifestyle, and do you feel lonely, content, accomplished?? Please, leave out no significant details :D

Cheers,
~intriguedasapie~

Hey intriguedasapie welcome. :sunny:

My main special interest currently is music. I listen to music most of the day and have over 1,000 cd's on my pc.

My hobbies would be playing video games, watching movies and checking out Youtube for interesting videos.

I love watching my favorite basketball team the Portland Trailblazers.

Not much else to say I guess other than I was diagnosed as Aspie just last year. :)

By the way. You left out your own details. :geek:

Science has always been an extreme focus of mine. All kinds, my reading habits are very eclectic and I could talk your ear off about anything from molecular biology to the latest cosmological theory that postulates that the universe is a hologram. When I was 11 my parents bought me one of those chemistry sets that are supposed to be safe and not let you create anything dangerous. Boy were they wrong :P

Next year they got me a computer which became another focus for me. I learned to program on my own and never looked back. It is nice when you can turn a focus into a career. If not for my periodic psychotic episodes I would say that I am content with my life. As it is, I have many good years under my belt as well as some pretty bad ones. I'm not really a lonely type of person, I enjoy solitude. Having said that, I have rarely been without a partner. I am gay which does kind of make it easier since at least I have some inkling of how a male thinks, I wouldn't even know where to begin connecting with a female. Unfortunately, the type of person who can put up with living with me usually had a screw or 2 loose as well. :?

I intensely follow sport scores - namely cricket, football and tennis - yet I don't quite know why I do. But I do believe I am disconnected from my own interests most of the time. Perhaps it's more out of habit than genuine enjoyment, because it's been over two years since I truly felt interested in various sporting events.

Mine is music--I perform, study & teach (history & theory), and it ranges in type--used to be a lot more jazz, now a lot more gamelan. I'm also big into star wars (although I can also keep up with star trek ;-) ), have always been OBSESSED with lions, and go in phases with various history/literature/religion binges. lately I seem to use more TV to calm myself down when stressed... often sherlock holmes stuff (let's face it, he's one of us! probably based on a real-life aspie lost to history...), which includes House!

How about yours?
