Hello everyone. I'm technically not new but I haven't been here for many years, so I might as well be. I'm a 28 year old gentleman with many, but not all, of the traits of an aspie. Despite getting an official diagnosis of "probably" an aspie, for several years previous I had thought that I could not possibly be an aspie because of my communication style. I always greet and smile at my coworkers and it feels completely natural. I love public speaking - I have the same fear of it that most everyone else does but I get a huge rush from facing that fear. I was even recently promoted into a job where my primary role is communication - acting as a liaison of sorts between the IT department and Human Resources. I get along with others quite well and enjoy their company while I'm at work, even if I need to retreat to my room when I get home.

But I absolutely have the same suite of sensory issues as most aspies. Although I don't know if this is typical of aspies, I do know I feel differently about love and relationships - I fall in love very rarely but also very deeply. I just tooked the rdos. As expected, I was mostly aspie with a big spike to the NT side when it came to the communication style. Something I saw in my test results struck me as potentially very meaningful - It said I seemed to have traits of both an aspie and an NT.

I seem to have traits of both an aspie and an NT.

I remember when I was younger, finding all social interacting baffling and often coming off as cold and distant to people. But I've changed. Now even my boss says that I have very strong communication skills, which is a big part of why I got this promotion. I'm a little unclear what to think. Did I just "grow out of" my strange social habits naturally... or is it just that I became good at and used to mimicking "normal" communication? Any thoughts?

You got that promotion.

It's probably a combination of both--you acquiring stronger social skills, and being able to mimic those around you.

You did well, my friend.
