Hey all,

I have Aspergers. I was diagnosed as a child. I wasn't told until my son was born and was diagnosed with Austism. I was 21 at the time. I'm 25 now. My mom never told anyone until that point. I never got help and went through so much of life with all these problems that no one could understand. I almost got held back in elementry school for not being emotionally developed enough. I don't know what to do to help or adjust the problems that I have to this day. Mom says I have a mild form but the problems are still there. She tells me that anyone with this who hasn't gotten help as a child can't be helped as an adult, so I haven't done anything about it. I feel lost, lonely, confused, and very helpless. This is the first time I've found a place where I can talk to others who understand this, who are going through it.
My mom and her husband are caring for my son, I couldn't do it. I just celebrated my one-year wedding anniversary this month, and poor hubby deals with everything I put him through.
I don't really know much else.

Welcome psalm139140,

Being a young adult is hard, throw in a touch of AS, and it is even more fun.

I am too old to be of much help, but there are many in your age group here.

Read about, find people who's words ring true for you. We are all very open and helpful.

You have come to the right place.

Your mom is full of s**t.There is no "cure" fo AS because it is not a disease. But there are co-morbids...depression,anxiety,sensitivities to sound or light, that there is help for. Please go to O.A.S.I.S. web site and look
for their listings of local AS counslors.(it should be someone who is experienced in Adult AS and preferable, with females.)
I dont understand why your mother, knowing you had AS as a child, did not give you some assistence. It makes me question her motives in taking care of your child.Reguardless, please get some help. You dont need to be suffering so much.If possible,y can bring your childhood records and your spouse to your meeting with a counslor,it could be very helpful.
