hi peeps,

im glad to have found out about this forum by accident (was trying to get a friend informed on AS and found the link at the wikipedia article). i have been reading (lurking) for some days and decided to join. there were a few discussions too many which screamed to me to participate. :) also, i find it refreshing to not have to excuse for or explain my way of being.

here comes a little something so you know who you are talking to:

i live in germany, am 24 years old (born 1982), male, a student of philosophy and interested in a wild variety of things. among them are reading (science fiction, some fantasy, philosophy and almost everything that catches my fancy), drawing & painting, military technology, camouflage, martial arts, fashion...
and i LOVE knowing useless facts that are plain interesting. they make one look so much more intelligent. :)

personality wise, i am very secluded and prefer to be on my own. you know how tiring it is to be interacted with all the time and being unable to play the game (or unable to see why to play the stupid game to start with). i do have a few cool people i share interests with and who just take me how i am. beyond that, i consider myself hard to get close to, hence i only have a very limited circle of people i consider close personal contacs and real-deal best friends.

i got to know about AS via the article on wired magazine. i researched further and was all hyped because there was something that just read like how i felt about myself. my mother was really open for it and became interested, too. im glad for that, because i often encountered the opinion "that this all can be learned" and that "i just take a lame excuse". my family got to accept me that way, my sister looks like being borderline-aspie (although a lot of it could just be that she grew up with an aspie brother, being exposed to aspieness as a normal way of being) and never fails to pull pranks on my social inabilites and the relation to my mother most often works on a win-win base when we exchange about our differing ways of being on even terms to learn from and about each other.

hmm... what else to tell? i dunno. if you are interested in any other things, just ask.

As you are interested in reading, as always I'll suggest what I've done on my story (http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules.php? ... c&t=18028&). Most of it has pieces focusing on or around Kipo, a deliberate Aspie character. It takes place on a fictional planet.

Welcome to WP!

wee, thank you. :)

kbabz: when i get some spare time, ill take a look. i cant promise it for anytime soon, though, as i am pretty stacked on reading material right now (two and a half pratchetts and almost everything nietzsche wrote that i didnt read already) and the semester will start soon. semester = reading lots of philosophical lecture. -_- (but interesting)
a well-written view through aspie-eyes sounds like a good idea, though. definitely something to point clueless nts to.

larsenjw: diverse in one way, veeeeery non-diverse in a different way. i guess that is what makes this forum such an interesting place

unnamed: nuernberg! that is just round the corner. :) (one hour with the car) make sure to drop a line when you come over here.

raph522: well, that way, wikipedia is of some use at least. ;)

calandale: tweeeeet!

Welcome to WP.

Your extensive list of interests reminded me of an idea that comes to me from time to time.

'Normal' people (usually referred to as NTs or 'neurotypicals' on this site) are primarily interested in each other. Everything else is just background scenery to them. To us the scenery is the real world & every part of it is interesting.

oh yeah, you're so right about that. the only modification id make about that is that the only real real world is myself. and the rest of it would be a much nicer place if there were less people in it.

reminds me of that boyd rice song, people:

Quote:
Do you ever think about
What a lovely place the world would be
Without all the people
That make life so unpleasant?

All the small, petty people
All the ugly, annoying people
It's hard not to think about it
...

lyrics are a bit more extreme after that. ;)

^^ :3 My other one was "Heads up gentlemen, in front of the ship we have an asteroid larger than King Kong's first dump of the day!"

Another favourite is: "As we travel though deep space, the threat of insanity grips us all. Personally, the only thing that keeps me going is my secret collection of singing potatoes."

And finally: "What food have we got left?" "We're down to the Dog food and Pot Noodle." "Well I know which on I'll be eating first...

...I hate Pot Noodle...!"

Okay okay, a few more!

*siren blares*
"Emergency! There's an emergency going on! It's still going on! This isn't a drill! This is a drill: *drill noise plays* Emergency, there's an-oh God, now the siren's bust! Aooga! Aooga! Abandon ship!"

"It's a black hole, a rift in the space time continueum that sucks in all matter and light which is billions of feet across? How could you not see it?" "Well, the thing a Black Hole is that it's typical colour is black. And the thing about Space, the colour of Space, your typical Space colour, is that it's black! So how're you supposed to see it?" "But FIVE of them?!" "It's always the way isn't it? You travel in deep Space for three million years and you don't see one, then all of a sudden, FIVE of them show up at once!"
