Hello there. You probably won't like me. Nobody does for long. I am a new-ish member, and I thought I would just let you know I'm here, so you can avoid me all together right from the get go.

I made appointments for a psychological evaluation, and the psychologist said I 'present behaviors consistent with autistic spectrum disorder.' So here I am, trying to learn more.

I would tell you more about myself, but I don't know what the point of that would be!

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts. I really appreciate it. Have a fabulous day, or night.

Hi plainjain,

I'm sorry to hear your confidence in yourself is not so great, but I am sure that you are really quite fun and interesting in your own way. I didn't think much of myself (I know I'm younger than you but bear with me) for a long time, but sometimes you just need others to point out what's good in you to realise that you do have qualities and that people do like you!

Anyway, I'm sure you will make friends here on WP, everyone here is so friendly and understanding, and offer sound advice. I hope you find the help you're looking for. :)

Aww, come on man, don't ruin your chances form the get-go. If you just make your posts and are polite, there's nothing to worry about.
You'll probably be well-accepted here. :)

Anyway, hello and welcome. :D

Why do you think no one will like you? How do you show your liking for others? I am not 'generally liked' either, but I know it is primarily due to behaviors that are completely changeable on my part. I am seeking help for those. Perhaps we can help you here. This is a good place to associate with others coping with ASD issues. Welcome! :D

Well, thanks for the replies, everyone!

Laurentius, I wouldn't judge the value of your words by your age! You're right, my confidence is not so good. And your age doesn't make me think you wrong. Thanks for telling me everyone here is friendly. I'm pretty nervous about posting.

Earthling, you made me laugh! Thank you for welcoming me.

Alexanderplatz, I already like you, because I named my son Alexander! Thanks for your encouragement!

waynet7, I guess I was thinking no one would like me, because that's been pretty much my experience in life. I usually show my liking for others by taking an interest in their concerns, and trying to offer support when I can. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that people don't like me because of my own behaviors. (Most people seem very put off by my dislike of lying, for example. And I could probably just let them lie.) The psychologist I was evaluated by recommended counseling, for social difficulties. So maybe I'll get some advice from someone professionally. Until then, I'm coming here and looking at the forum about social skills, and I've also started reading a book called, 'Friendship', by Joel D. Block, Ph.D., which seems all right so far. I'm working on it! Thanks for welcoming me!

envirozentinel, Thank you! I have failed at life pretty good up until now, so there's not too much to tell. But maybe if I spend more time here, and learn some life skills, I can start to do better. I do enjoy the forums!

RoadRatt, Thanks very much.

AnonymousAnnonymous, thank you. I like your name!

I think most of us would like to know more about you. We are all different and we react to our aspergers/autism differently. Not many people are willing to share unless it is anonymously, like on this forum.
Getting to know others, even if they make us nervous or are not like us, is easier in this setting. Please give us a chance

I am older than you - ha ha!

Thank you, Cat. I appreciate the welcome!

Welllll . . . Bald-Accountant, here's something about me. I always disliked math. But when I was in high-school, I took a basic accounting course - because I needed the credit, and was told it would be easy - and I actually liked it so much that I told my parents I was interested in learning accounting as a career. They said no, because I don't like math, and I was supposed to be an artist, instead. Most of my father's career had been working as an auditor, for the state of New York, so I took his word for it.

I did go to college for a little bit, concentrating on art, but never finished. So I never was an accountant, or an artist, in the end. But we recently had a room clear out in our house, and I've managed to jam all of my art supplies in here, and I'm calling it a studio, and I have convinced a local business owner to let me put some art up in their business to try to sell over this winter, so maybe the art thing will happen without finishing college.

Anyway, now you know two things about me. I thought once I might like accounting, and also, I have long been interested in art.

Yes, you are older than me. But not by much! I'm sure we have lots in common, because we're close in age.

Take care everyone.

Thanks for your response, you have to like anyone who thinks or thought they might like accounting.

You know even though I have accountant in my username, I dont really like the whole idea that when people introduce themselves, they almost automatically go to what they do for a living.
for most of us that is what we spend the majority of our lives doing, but it should not completely define us.

I love number crunching (and I love numbers) but not all accountants are great at math. That is what programs like Excel are for. There is a great variety. My former boss could remember all sorts of obscure numbers and do math in his head super quick. I can do math in my head, but not instantly. I have known good accountants who were actually better at being organized and working off of checklists vs being great at math and I thank God for them because I am unorganized and somewhat undisciplined, so the variety balances out the profession. If all accountants were like me we would get too distracted by the accuracy factor and the minute details to see the big picture.

What kind of art do you create - realistic pictures or abstract (forgive me I am not an art person). Landscapes. or portraits?

What kind of family do you come from and are you married/a parent?

I have a wonderful NT wife and two wonderful Aspy/Anxious kids (and lots of Therapy bills)
I love video games, role playing games, taking hikes with my family. I like humor and documentaries over drama/gun fights as far as movies and TV. I like to read paper or digital books or more so listen to them.

I love maps. I could look at an atlas or those old timey maps that were not always terribly accurate and be satisified

Oh yeah we are supposed to not be self centered but find out about others, so tell us more about you!

(See how I did that?
