Thank you, Cat. I appreciate the welcome!
Welllll . . . Bald-Accountant, here's something about me. I always disliked math. But when I was in high-school, I took a basic accounting course - because I needed the credit, and was told it would be easy - and I actually liked it so much that I told my parents I was interested in learning accounting as a career. They said no, because I don't like math, and I was supposed to be an artist, instead. Most of my father's career had been working as an auditor, for the state of New York, so I took his word for it.
I did go to college for a little bit, concentrating on art, but never finished. So I never was an accountant, or an artist, in the end. But we recently had a room clear out in our house, and I've managed to jam all of my art supplies in here, and I'm calling it a studio, and I have convinced a local business owner to let me put some art up in their business to try to sell over this winter, so maybe the art thing will happen without finishing college.
Anyway, now you know two things about me. I thought once I might like accounting, and also, I have long been interested in art.
Yes, you are older than me. But not by much! I'm sure we have lots in common, because we're close in age.
Take care everyone.
Thanks for your response, you have to like anyone who thinks or thought they might like accounting.
You know even though I have accountant in my username, I dont really like the whole idea that when people introduce themselves, they almost automatically go to what they do for a living.
for most of us that is what we spend the majority of our lives doing, but it should not completely define us.
I love number crunching (and I love numbers) but not all accountants are great at math. That is what programs like Excel are for. There is a great variety. My former boss could remember all sorts of obscure numbers and do math in his head super quick. I can do math in my head, but not instantly. I have known good accountants who were actually better at being organized and working off of checklists vs being great at math and I thank God for them because I am unorganized and somewhat undisciplined, so the variety balances out the profession. If all accountants were like me we would get too distracted by the accuracy factor and the minute details to see the big picture.
What kind of art do you create - realistic pictures or abstract (forgive me I am not an art person). Landscapes. or portraits?
What kind of family do you come from and are you married/a parent?
I have a wonderful NT wife and two wonderful Aspy/Anxious kids (and lots of Therapy bills)
I love video games, role playing games, taking hikes with my family. I like humor and documentaries over drama/gun fights as far as movies and TV. I like to read paper or digital books or more so listen to them.
I love maps. I could look at an atlas or those old timey maps that were not always terribly accurate and be satisified
Oh yeah we are supposed to not be self centered but find out about others, so tell us more about you!
(See how I did that?
