Am I welcome at wrong planet?
I have never been diagnosed with aspergers, but I have a history of serious mental illness.
I have since always had huge problems relating to any kind of peer group.
People with aspergers are supposed to have very intense interests and problems relating to other people.
Well I have problems relating to other people but my intense interest is other people.
When I was sixteen I said to myself, if I understand other people I'll be able to make them like me.
Well I am thirty five now happily married, I'm not popular but I'm still trying to decode people.
When I understand other people, their motivations I don't feel so lonely and the sting of reality gets dulled a little.
Any way my intense interest in what goes on in other people's heads only serves to distance me from other people.
But I do believe that only through understanding others can we understand ourselves, so I resist other's attempt to label me as judgmental.
Do I sound like I might fit on this forum.

Hi dennis! and welcome!
Just my view i know many will differ
Thanks for the reply posts, I feel much more comfortable now.
Its interesting someone mentioned "psychology" but actually I don't rate it very much, mostly because the people who work in this same field like philosophy have radically different views about the area that they are engaged in.
You don't see cardiologists with vastly differing opinions about the substance and the structure of the heart but that is precisely the situation of psychologists and philosophers and their "understanding" of the human mind.
Recently, I was watching a lecture with evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and in it someone asked "why am I me" in other words what makes up my mind why do I as a human behave in the way I do.
Well Dawkins couldn't say anything only admit to his ignorance to the subject in question. This really hit me, as a problem unsolved.
Its my belief that the "normals" are happy with the status quo and because of that not interested in really thoroughly answering the question of what rules our behaviour as a species of animal.
But I'm very interested, because ever since I was young every time I opened my mouth people looked at me weirdly, thought I was the scum of the earth. I'm very well motivated.
Social alienation is incredibly painful, why is it so painful well that is explained very weakly within contemporary pyschology why are some people not accepted within society, this too is very weakly answered.
The vulnerable members of society who simply "can't get along" deserve a much more robust explanation for the human creature.
Any way you can probably already see I'm very serious about my interest in how people think.

Welcome to WP
Have you been evaluated and they did not think Aspergers or Autism were factors, or have you not been evaluated?
Whether you have Aspergers or not, I can relate to feeling on the outside looking in.
Just yesterday I was a little down because I feel invisible at work socially.
Sometimes though I am just more comfortable with my family or people I know really well.
Really hope we can help you, diagnosis or not
We are all people and all are valuable treasures.

I'm pretty happy that my current work situation means I don't have to deal with colleagues at work, and the political games that are involved with it. "Normals" might say they don't like office politics, but I'm very skeptical about that. its all part of their MO, their raison detre.
Any way one must happy for what one's got.

Welcome to WP! It's always been fun for me to think about some of the "deeper" questions of the whys and hows of human behavior, especially when it involves group dynamics and social relationships. There's plenty of people here to talk about those things so hopefully you'll feel right at home.

I am looking for fellow travellers in confusion.
I have no interest in making friends, as I do not know what that means. Only to share some questions with others who might be as equally motivated to answer such questions.
Its my opinion that the individual has no power and consequence in society. There is no such thing as understandings that one can reach simply on one's own.
An individual does not even have the power to understand themself.
I leave such notions to the normal members of society to whom I feel little affinity.
